How to Create a Romantic Table for 2 on a Budget

Setting the tone for a romantic dinner for two doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. It just takes a little outside-the-box creativity! So, we’re sharing some lovely and affordable ideas from Christina of The DIY Mommy who is such a romance diva! Enjoy and try these ideas for yourself – you’ll enjoy the results!

Here are 5 tips for creating a romantic table for 2 on a budget:

1: Use a smaller table for an intimate feel

To create this warm & romantic table setting by our living room fireplace, I used our everyday coffee table by our sectional, but one of its best features is that you can crank a handle on its base to raise it up to dining height. Not only would this table be fabulous in a small space, but it’s perfect when we want to set up a more intimate dining experience in our living room. It has a beautiful, rustic feel that I love pairing with more soft and romantic accessories, but the price point is affordable. For this fancy dinner, I draped what looks like a gauzy table runner over the table – but it’s actually an inexpensive sheer curtain panel!

2: Make your own centerpiece with grocery store flowers & faux greenery

I bought some inexpensive roses, sweat peas and baby’s breath at the grocery store and then combined them with some faux greenery from the craft store to create a beautiful but affordable floral arrangement. Using flowers as a centerpiece will make your setting feel extra special, and they smell great! The faux greenery is a simple way to save some money but make the arrangement feel more full.

3: Spray paint candle holders to match your cutlery

Fancy colored cutlery also helps make a setting feel fancy, and matching candlesticks is the icing on the cake! This rose gold cutlery was an inexpensive grocery store find, and I painted these thrift store candles in the same color to add some glam to this tablescape.

4: Splurge a little (but not much) on beautiful linen napkins

There’s something so beautiful looking (and feeling!) about a real linen napkin, and they’re easy to make if you can’t find any to buy. Leftovers from my grocery store flowers & fake greenery look pretty and romantic tied around the napkins with some rustic twine.

5: Set the mood

The final touch to any cozy dining experience is music & ambient lighting. Put on some soft tunes, light a fire, and scatter the room with candles and twinkle lights. You’re all set to enjoy a romantic dinner for 2 at home!
